Ashfield College’s intensive exam-focused Easter Revision Courses are offered over both weeks of the Easter holidays. Choose to attend recurring daily classes over the course of a week, choose to cover a single subject in a day, or choose a combination of both in Dundrum and Dublin 2 (sequential classes are available in Dundrum only.)

Topic 1: Exam Guide
A comprehensive study of mark allocations and exam technique on each area of the exam paper – reading, writing and aural. Students will study how to maximise marks in these areas in the exam and we will also look at time allocations per question.

Nicky Dowling BA (Hons) French & German UCD, PGCE
Subjects: French & German

Nicky is a dynamic and inspirational teacher of modern languages, who graduated with the highest grade ever achieved for the PGCE from the University of Manchester. Nicky has more than 20 years’ experience teaching both French & German to Leaving Cert level, and has worked at Ashfield College since 1997. During her time at Ashfield College she was Director of TEFL, where she was in charge of curriculum and teaching. Nicky is an extremely exam-focused, practical and enthusiastic teacher who inspires her students to achieve their maximum potential in the State Exams.

With fourteen years teaching experience, including being a senior member of the teaching staff in Coláiste Árainn Mhóir, Donegal, Matt is a dynamic and talented teacher who makes every effort to make Irish accessible for all of his students. Matt has vast experience of teaching the Irish for Primary Teaching course and has recently worked with Hibernia College in their teacher-training programme. He is very much aware of the challenges students face when learning the language but is confident in his ability to equip students with the tools and confidence they need to excel in the Leaving and Junior Certificate Gaeilge.

The main focus of the Maths HL Easter Revision Course will be to assist students with the most difficult areas of the course.

The topics covered during the course will be taken from the following.

John Winters has been teaching Maths, Physics and Applied Maths to Leaving Certificate (Higher Level) since 1993. Over the years his students have achieved exceptional grades in the state examinations. His knowledge of the curriculum and the imagination which he puts into his classes has been a source of huge benefit to students embarking on their studies of the Project Maths Course. He is particularly well known for the excellent revision courses which he has given in Maths and Physics. During his career he has taught over 250 revision courses to students in different areas throughout Ireland.  John holds a Master’s Degree in Mathematics which demonstrates his passion for Mathematics

Course Content

All 5 course components will use the Leaving Certificate past papers as a basis to ensure that they are totally exam focused.
1) Journalistic Text (50 marks) – this will focus on Section A, question 1. b), specifically focusing on synonyms.
2) Opinion piece (50 marks) – this will incorporate several of the following topics:
La tecnología
Los problemas sociales de la sociedad contemporánea
La discriminación, la inmigración/la emigración y la pobreza
El acoso escolar
El trabajo/el ocio
El medio ambiente
La crisis económica
La salud
3) Dialogue Construction/Formal Letter (30 marks) – this will be used to highlight more complex grammatical structures such as the present and imperfect subjunctive. It will also touch on letter layout.
4) Diary Entry/Note (20 marks) – layout and sentence construction will be highlighted.
5) Aural (80 marks) – this will include practise of the listening component and an in depth revision of weather vocabulary.

Ashfield College Easter Revision Courses for Leaving Cert are taught by our superb experienced teachers, in our Dublin School at our location in Dundrum and conveniently at a location in Dublin City Centre.

Many of our teachers are Leaving Certificate State Examiners and have written textbooks and exam papers for their subjects. Our Easter Revision Course gives students the opportunity to supplement and enhance their studies in subjects they find to be most challenging.

We deliver a great selection of choice for our students, both in subject choices and in how you revise with us.  You can attend classes in a variety of subjects for 75 minutes each day over the course of a week (Sequential) or choose to cover a single subject in five 75 minute sessions over the course of one day (Block).
