About The Irish For Primary Teaching Course

This intensive part-time course is aimed at mature students and offers the choice of enrolling in weekly classes in Dundrum or in Dublin City Centre.  All enrolled students benefit from access to recorded classes to assist with revision throughout the academic year.  Our top teachers ensure that students are well prepared to sit the Leaving Certificate exam in June. The course covers the prescribed Leaving Certificate course, in full, in one year.


Irish requirement  for Primary Teaching

A grade of H4 in Higher Level Irish is required for entry to Primary Teacher training in St. Patrick’s, Drumcondra, Coláiste Mhuire (Marino Institute of Education), Griffith Avenue, Froebel College of Education, Maynooth, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, Church of Ireland College of Education, Rathmines, and Hibernia College, Dublin (online).


Our Teachers

Teachers Maitiú Ó Faoláin and Darran Breathnach, are committed to the success of those participating in this programme and always go the extra mile to ensure that students have the best chance of reaching their potential.

Maitiú and Darran are experienced in teaching classes of mature students and all segments of the examination are covered with graded assessments.  All students have the opportunity to take a mock oral exam in the Spring to complete their preparation before sitting the Leaving Certificate Irish examination in June 2018.

Teacher Profiles

Maitiú Ó Faoláin

BA (Honours) UCD, PGCE
Course in Dundrum

With eleven years teaching experience, including being a senior member of the teaching staff in Coláiste Árainn Mhóir Donegal, Matt is a dynamic and talented teacher who makes every effort to make Irish accessible for all of his students. He is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership in NUIM. Matt has vast experience of teaching the Irish for Primary Teaching course.  He boasts a 90 percent success rate to date, with most students surpassing the H4 minimum requirement.

 

Darran Breathnach

Course in Dublin 2

Darran is a secondary school teacher of Irish  for the past 10 years. He has a great passion for his subject and spends much of the summer in the Gaeltacht.  Darran puts a massive emphasis on the spoken language and firmly believes that this improves all aspects of the language.  He has done much work with the PDST (Professional Development Service for Teachers) to encourage the use of technology in language learning.  He takes great pride in giving students a ‘grá’ for the language and engaging them. He is very much aware of the challenges students face when learning the language but is confident in his ability to equip students with the tools and confidence they need to excel in the language.
