Leaving Certificate Chemistry can be studied as a one or two year programme as a full-time day school student.

Chemistry is in every living thing on land and sea and in our bodies. So, if you enjoyed Junior Cert Science and you have done well in this and Maths you should be a good candidate for Leaving Cert Chemistry. Chemistry is an essential element in the study of careers including: Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory Technology.
Sean has a passion for teaching his subject to the highest standards. He has been working in the UK for several years where he held the position of Head of Chemistry and Vocational Science Coordinator. He had responsibilities for the administration, development and implementation of effective schemes of work for GCSE and A-level courses. Sean also works for the State Exam Commission as an Exam Co-ordinator. He aims to promote the chemistry course with enthusiasm and relevance, using exam based material to allow for the best possible opportunities.

The course consists of the study of a variety of aspects of Chemistry under the following headings:
The leaving cert exam is three hours in duration. Each candidate must answer at least two questions from Section A (experimental section) and a maximum of six questions from Section B. There are eleven questions in total on the exam paper, each carrying 50 marks.
